Our History
Meridian Salmon Group was formed at the beginning of 2011 by the integration of two well established major farming companies, Northern Isles Salmon (formerly Mainstream Scotland) and The Lakeland Group.
They were joined by Westray Salmon and Rysa Salmon. All four companies had been acquired in 2010 by Morpol, the world leading processor of salmon and market leader with smoked and marinated salmon. The companies that formed Meridian Salmon were chosen because of their excellent records for quality products and efficient operations.
Both Lakeland Group and Northern Isles Salmon were acquired by Morpol second half 2010; Lakeland from Marine Farms – a company which has been involved in the fish farming industry since 1976. Northern Isles Salmon was acquired from Cermaq – a global leader in the aquaculture industry, with fish feed and fish farming operations worldwide. Northern Isles Salmon has been a leading company in the Scottish salmon industry since 1989, producing top quality products for a demanding market.
Meridian Salmon Group specialises in vertically integrated production of Atlantic salmon, from the egg right through to market size fish. This gives total control over every stage of the production cycle, resulting in fish of consistently high quality.
